Plain Ordinary Telephone Service (POTS)
Originally associated with the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), analogue lines were once the backbone of global phone systems. While many lines are now digital, analogue is still in use, particularly for final connections between businesses and local exchanges.
Typically analogue lines are used for domestic use, however they are still widely used by small businesses who don’t have a great need for the features of digital lines.
Analogue PSTN lines are known as POTS (Plain Old Telephone System). Although outdated analogue lines have proven to be inexpensive technology that’s served businesses very well for many years.
Unfortunately, although analogue lines are reliable for voice communications they have limited capacity for data and restricted line features when compared to digital and are therefore somewhat insufficient for today’s hungry business world.
