Session Initiated Protocol (SIP)

Using the internet the ITSP provides connectivity to the PSTN network for communication to fixed and mobile phones.

Unlike traditional telephony, where the service provider provides physical wired telephone lines to the business premises, a SIP trunk allows a company to replace these traditional fixed lines with PSTN connectivity via a SIP trunking service provider on the Internet.

There are three components necessary to successfully deploy SIP trunks:

• SIP enabled telephone system (PBX)
• SIP capable network device (firewall or edge device)
